About Us

Our Mission Statement

Phi Sigma Kappa is a lifelong brotherhood dedicated to the betterment of the individual, the university community, and our world, by giving its members opportunities to develop leadership skills, participate in service to others, achieve academic excellence, experience cultural diversity and practice personal integrity

Our History

Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity was founded at Amherst Agricultural College (currently UMass Amherst) in 1873 by Jabez William Clay, Frederick George Campbell, Joseph Francis Barrett,  Xenos Young Clark, William Penn Brooks, and Henry Hague. Its first Grand Chapter was established in 1878, and the fraternity grew steadily after that. In 1985, Phi Sigma Kappa merged with Phi Sigma Epsilon, in the largest known fraternity merger in history.  Our chapter started out on September 18th, 2016 and we have thrived and prospered on campus despite being recently chartered.

To Stimulate Scholarship

Wisdom is attained through the pursuit of knowledge. In alignment with the mission of higher education, our aim is to assist our members in integrating formal and informal learning experiences. We strive for them to grasp the significance of both theoretical and practical knowledge, expanding their comprehension of human connections. By doing so, we endeavor to cultivate wise individuals who are equipped to make meaningful and impactful contributions to society and the global community.

To Develop Character

Honor serves as the foundation of fraternal bonds. It is our firm commitment to cultivate within each member a deep dedication to values that steer them toward noble and righteous pursuits. By embodying these principles, both in their actions and the way they carry themselves, each member shall be recognized as an individual of unwavering honor. Through their inspiring example, they shall earn the admiration and respect of others, fostering a legacy of honor not only for themselves but also for Phi Sigma Kappa.
